Hua Yuchen is a music teacher at Ganghua Elementary School, Wuhan City, central China"s Hubei Province. She has been working there for 10 years. After the COVID-19 outbreak in her home city, Hua joined volunteers to help fight the epidemic in Wuhan. She transported medical staff to and from work, took temperatures of drivers at toll stations and served as a broadcaster at a makeshift hospital.

As the only child in her home, Hua didn"t tell her parents that she would do volunteer work at first, for fear that they would worry too much about her. "In the beginning, I was afraid to tell them because I thought they wouldn"t support me. However, the fact was that I underestimated them. No matter how late I came back, I could see the lights on when I reached my home," said Hua.

Hua also organized her students to record a Chinese choral song, "Brightest Star in the Night Sky," to cheer up the people suffering from the epidemic. "Look at the soldiers of the people"s army. They got off the plane at midnight and then rushed to the most dangerous places. This song is about them. I called for a "cloud chorus" in the parents-teacher WeChat groups. Students and their parents were quite enthusiastic and wanted to participate," said Hua. "I hoped this song could tell kids that we should be grateful to those who helped us during the hardest time."

Hua is a member of the Communist Party of China. "After joining in the Party, I felt that I should do a good job," she said.
